Community Impact

Neighbourgood logo

Credit unions do more than just banking. We’re teaching youth about financial literacy. We’re choosing to volunteer in our communities. And we support causes unique to the neighbourhoods around our branches.

Being an active part of the community it’s important that we ask ourselves the question: what does it mean to be a good neighbour? Well, we think it’s about celebrating the things that make our communities great and to give back to our neighbours.

At Chinook Financial we’re Making Money Make a Difference.

?Did You Know

In 2018:

  • Over $194,000 donated
  • 130 local organizations supported
  • 2,800 southern Albertans impacted

Investing in our community is an investment in ourselves. Why? Because we’re your neighbours, our kids go to the same school, we sit alongside you on the bleachers. We share a community - let’s build on the things that make it great.

Our contributions come in all shapes and sizes and for all kinds of needs. We’re committed to celebrating our communities so if you think you have eligible cause, then we’d love to hear from you.

Act Local Grants

Our branch-giving program empowers employees to make decisions to best support neighbourhoods near our branches. Our employees take pride in building partnerships with local charities, not-for-profits, and public organizations to meet each community’s unique needs. Applications are presented to our nearest branch for consideration.

4H Grants

Partnering with 4-H means we're helping local youth build bright futures for themselves and their communities. This grant program provides opportunity for local clubs to access $500 grants to help gain career skills or lead community building projects. Applications are presented to our nearest branch for consideration.

Community Grants

Each year, we provide up to $10,000 donations to community organizations meeting the unique needs of our local communities. Applications reviewed annually in August.

Learn and Earn Scholarship Program

Matched Savings and Financial Mentorship for Southern Albertans Youth

This matched savings program helps youth learn how to save, plan for their future career, and get enrolled in post-secondary education or trade programs. Our branch teams each select one scholarship recipient annually, then provide mentorship throughout the school year and matched savings up to $1,000. Priority is placed on students who are motivated but may face financial barriers to achieving their career or education goals. Applications accepted until June 1, 2019.

A partnership with Junior Achievement

Economics for Success encourages students to consider how they can prepare to enter the world of work. This program encourages students to reflect on the advantages of furthering their education by understanding the financial constraints of independence, learning how to budget, and the importance of career planning, mentorship and goal setting.

Each year, we provide up to $10,000 donations to community organizations affecting measurable change for Southern Albertans to gain skills, knowledge and confidence in their financial capability. Applications reviewed annually in August.
